Valerie Shiraz Leyva
Valerie Shiraz Leyva is a private art advisor and the founder of Valerie Shiraz Leyva Art Advisory. For more than fifteen years, she has worked with clients worldwide to develop modern and contemporary art collections for private residences, corporate headquarters, and foundations.
Leyva received a BA in English with an emphasis in art history from New York University in 1998. Following her undergraduate studies, she held positions in art organizations in New York and Los Angeles, including Margo Pollins Schab, Inc. and Alitash Kebede Gallery. At the time, Margo Pollins Schab worked closely with the Aristide Maillol and Alexander Archipenko Foundations and sold blue-chip French Impressionism and classic modern art, including work by Édouard Vuillard, Henri Matisse, and Alexander Calder. While working with Schab, Leyva engaged closely with the work of Pablo Picasso, Naum Gabo, and Lucian Freud.
In 2003, Leyva became Associate Director of Alitash Kebede Gallery in Los Angeles. There, she coordinated exhibitions of the gallery’s artists and presented work by Romare Bearden, Sam Gilliam, Ed Clark, and Jacob Lawrence.
Beginning in 2006, Leyva spent two years working with international media groups to develop photography collections. She established herself as an independent advisor in 2008.
